History Comes Alive with Primary Sources

Are you looking for ways to build a dynamic partnership with a social studies teacher and make history come alive for your students? Then join us for the 4-day June Institute, History Comes Alive with Primary Sources.

Application

When? June 10, 28, 29 & 30 from 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Where? UFT Headquarters, 52 Broadway NY, NY 10004.

What? The Office of Library Services in cooperation with the UFT Teachers Centers (a Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources partner) has designed an Institute for 15 teacher and librarian teams (30 participants total) to work with primary source documents via the Library of Congress (LOC) web site and the NYPL digitized collection within a framework of inquiry.

Who? Collaborative teams of teachers and librarians (one application for each team).

Why? Here is the gift of TIME to work with your teacher! Your team will have time to explore the LOC web site, frame a collaborative unit on an inquiry topic of your choice and then develop a lesson, activity and assessment using the primary sources you discover. What will you leave with? You will have a full lesson in hand, access to the lessons developed by all the teams during the Institute, and the inside track on the vast repository of primary sources available online from NYPL and the Library of Congress.

Teacher and librarian teams should complete one application (available on this wiki) and submit it by May 17th. Selected teams will be notified by May 26th and are expected to attend all four sessions. Due to fiscal constraints, per session remuneration is not available.
